A FEW WORDS
ABOUT US
History
Our story starts way back
Sultan Jahan Begum the ruler of the Princely state of Bhopal in British India was the third woman sovereign of the state preceded by her mother and maternal grandmother. As ardent supporters of Sir Syed’s Aligarh Movement rooted in the MAO College (established in 1875 and upgraded to AMU in 1920) the three women had taken pride in patronising the development of the community through this movement. The last Begum had constructed and donated the Sultan Jahan Manzil in Shamshad Market in 1914 to the Aligarh Muslim University.
Our Background
Entrusted to the AMU, a portion of the Sultan Jahan Manzil was allocated to house the Muslim Social Uplift Society (a Non Profit NGO Registered in 1981, under the Society’s Registration Act of 1860). The MSUS has been fulfilling its aim of capacity building in the community through coaching programmes and various scholarship disbursements. Over the period it has also extended its facilities in new classrooms. computer lab and office space.
